Creating Drupal Accounts

There is, at this time,  no automated process for creating User (Drupal) accounts for contacts or members.

The best way to create a user is by simply "tagging" them.  Under the Tags option - under the contact tab, the Actions tab or elsewhere - just select the tag "Create Drupal Account".  That's it!  One little checkbox!

NOTE:

  1. The contact must have an email account listed
  2. The email account MUST be UNIQUE.  This doesn't always occur within families ... in which case a member simply cannot their own user account and must share.
  3. the user name assigned is "firstname.lastname" ... so Jane Doe would have the user name "jane.doe"
  4. No password is assigned* - the member will have to use the password reset feature to create a password.

FURTHER:

  1. the member can login using either the account name jane.doe or the email
  2. there is no method in CiviCRM to edit the account name
  3. Administrators have the power to edit username, password and email ... but probably shouldn't.

* why no password?  Basically, the developers seem to think that's a security risk, and they are all about security.
